Lincoln is crawling!!!!!!!!!!!! Nothing is off limits now. Just in the last week, he's taken off. He is also really keen to pull himself up on things. He hasn't been super successful yet, but you can tell he is just on the cusp of being quite successful. The anticipation of his crawling was just killing us, but now we remember how quick they can be! My favorite is in a matter of five minutes, he will make short work of a clean area, pulling every toy into range and tipping over all toy holding baskets/buckets. It's hilarious to watch.
He is really a fan of his tubby time these days; he has figured out how to pull the plug out of the drain, which he finds particularly fun and sees it as a challenge. Sometimes, we are done with his tubby early, because he is out of water, because he's drained it so many times. He also enjoys it when I hold his head back so he is kind of laying on his back; he just goes wild kicking around - I end up close to soaked. He also likes teetering things precariously on the bathtub ledge, and just watching me while he flicks them out or in.
We've been working on the word 'no' and the meaning behind it, but he doesn't seem too concerned by that word. I can already tell between his moving around and his inability to learn about 'no', that these things I was warned about how little boys are, well, it seems to be true... he is going to have us on our toes - what a little bruiser!
He still takes in quite a bit of milk... having only two teeth, it's been trickier to get him moved over to having more food than he has milk. But he is really excited about eating at the table, and he wants to get food we are eating, so we are providing what we can to him. He seemed to really enjoy some barbequed beans at Schmeichfest this last weekend. He's getting a lot better at feeding himself, but seems to really enjoy a fast food delivery method - thus mom feeding him is still best... On the list of not so successful recently: cucumbers, they didn't mush around as well and so they just got him a little gaggy. We are hoping while they are at Grandma & Grandpa's this week (daycare is closed for the week), that Grandma can encourage a little more food as regular part of his schedule. Mostly, we just realize we need to just transition him, so figured Grandma could help with that! As far as the teeth go, we're really hoping the two eye teeth on top that have had some white peaking through will actually come through soon.
He still really lights up when sister comes around. Though he's definitely getting to be more physical with her, whether or not she likes it. Of course, for her it depends on what mood she's in and what he's doing in comparison to what she is doing. The other night he was trying to crawl over her legs for something and she thought it was hilarious. She is always so proud of him, and his crawling has not gone unnoticed; she loves to talk about how good he is doing.
Lincoln has a lot more conversation style with us. I recently read this about tone, and definitely find it to be true with him:
intonation that accompanies the babbling has the contours of statements (slowly rising and falling), requests (slowly rising and rising again), and commands (sharply rising and falling)
Lincoln enjoys his bedtime routine, mostly because it commences with his tubby. But he also really likes being read to; his favorite two books are That's Not My Tiger (he giggles at the tiger every time) and "Mimi sees" - it's a touch and feel book too, but it's the only one he really does touch and feel right now - for the last page that is a hedgehog - he loves it.
Lincoln, we can't wait to see you continue to impress us...
