Every day is quite an adventure with our new little girl. Everything is wonderful and amazing and good. I get it now... we get it now - and there is no undoing it, no going back, nor would we want to. Bringing life into this world is really something else...
With this new addition, the computer has definitely taken a back seat - as it should.. I am going to try to still update the blog weekly - with pictures more frequently as possible.
Last Sunday we were discharged from the hospital. Getting onto the interstate, I realized the life of motherhood and worry - we were next to a semi truck and I was instantly in panic - worried about everyone else on the road and their driving, worried about our tires, and then the realization that this is the rest of my life - from now until forever. We felt our first night at home went pretty well - no major concerns anyhow... Sunday night was nice, Mom brought over chicken and rice to cook in the oven and salad and dessert. Amber and Tyler came over and joined us. Olivia was the centerpiece for our dinner (picture to come).
Monday we had our first outing as a family. We whipped out the stroller and went for a walk to the Brookings pool - where I introduced Olivia to the Aqua Aerobics class that I've been going to for most of this summer! We then stopped by my salon to introduce her to my favorite hair dresser and then to the Westbys house (our neighbors).
This week we have had many visitors! Everyone wants to meet and/or visit Olivia!
Relatives: Grandma Janie, Grandpa Kevin & Grandma Dori, Grandma Rella, Great Aunt Eileen, Aunt Amber & Uncle Tyler
Friends: Joni, Kelli & her friends Jen & Sam, Chaz, Mellissa, Amber & Lucas (and their newest addition Sofia), Rachel, Jennifer, Barb, Ashley, Sara, and Daron
Olivia battled with jaundice this week, and she had to go to the doctor on Wed, Thurs and Friday. She was even in the ER on Thursday, because we were so worried about the way she was acting all afternoon that by 9pm, when she had only ate once in between 2p and 9 (and it was a five min feeding at best) - and she was in a very deep sleep the entire time. We had tried many things - stripping her down, putting ice cubes on her, etc, and nothing was waking her... so we called the triage nurse and they directed us to go to the ER... I was soooo scared as we were driving there - it's only a few blocks away, but I was a mess thinking of all the things that could happen and/or all the things it could be.. In the end, once we got her stripped down at the ER she woke up enough and wanted to eat & stayed awake for to actually follow through. So apparently, we just had to have an expensive doctor's visit for the feeding to occur. In hind sight, between the fact that she peaked with her jaundice levels that day and she had to give a vile of blood that morning, we think that affected the way she was acting - her deep sleep and disinterest in waking up... Better safe than sorry! And I guess we got our first ER trip out of the way...
On Friday after our one week check up (she checked out completely good and everything is in check) - we drove to Sioux Falls and visited Scott & Chaz and their new baby Allie Anne. We also took our first trip out to Grandma Janie's - for Uncle Alex's Birthday supper.
Saturday we went to Amber's to help making wedding decorations - we may not have been that much help, but we tried! And Olivia got to meet Amber's dog Lucy.
Today we ventured mass with little Olivia - she slept through most of it and then I left with her to nurse at the end. She slept through brunch at HyVee too - so all in all, a successful first time going to church!
