Lincoln is
approaching two and I'm excited to write an update about his life. He is still our little turkey. Our chunky monkey. Our dirty dan (Olivia's nickname she came up
with on her own because we decided dad shouldn't call him a messy beast).
First and foremost, Lincoln is no doubt, a fan of food. A bit of a foodie if you will. He puts down more than Ben and I do on most evenings. Sometimes he will get in his chair for a snack and not stop eating through second dinner (close to 1.5 hours later). But then, when we see him run and run and run, we understand why. He is full of energy and life. He also eats very healthy things right now… here's an idea of what he might eat when he gets up for snack/dinner after work:
one avocado (if
sister isn't around to partake, he plows through, and sometime, he does so even
when she is around!)
One entire peach
One tomato
A cheese stick
A hamburger
A potato
A cup of baked beans
And then he might
have a break until he goes for an cup or two of applesauce ("aft-da")
about 45 minutes after (when he is done bathing).
If I had to guess on
his least favorite food right now, it would be cucumbers (but he occasionally
still eats them). His favorite food is a
hotdog dipped in ketchup. He will ask
for both of those items, and if we state we will be having hot dogs, he goes
under the cabinet and starts taking out the hot-diggity-dogger (our hot dog
maker).
We don't have his current height/weight stats as we haven't been to his two year appointment, but when weighed on our bathroom scale he was 32 pounds.
Lincoln is still a bit hot or cold. He's never just 'alright' (unless he's sick), he is generally on a rampage running around and enjoying the house and the toys or outside or sister, or he's flipping out. Lincoln definitely loves his sister, sometimes, maybe a little too much (though that street certainly goes both ways).
Unfortunately, he is a biter. He bites and the other kids at daycare generally do too, so it's a bit uncontrollable. At home, he really only tries to bite sister when she won't leave him alone, and it's his only remaining defense. Though, at this point, he is weighing in at 30 lbs, the same as her, so though he is missing about 10" on height, he can certainly challenge her with his solid base.

He's a LOVER of
books. I thought Olivia liked to read,
but Lincoln certainly tops how she was at that age… he will go grab books and
present you with a lap full and enforce that each and every book is read. And he is really engaged for the most part,
participating in each and every page, and being really excited for the next
book. Sometimes he goes from lap to lap
with the same book. He also is excited
when we have company, because he can get them to read him books too!
He's had a bulk of
the animal sounds (even the rarer ones) down for the last several months; his wolf howl will knock you off your socks and his "ribbit" is impressive too. And, his piggy snort is pretty hilarious! He is starting to speak and it seems
he adds a new word or two a day, even if we aren't sure what the word is - that's a big difference to when his sister started talking. It's
pretty fun when Olivia asks him to say a word, and he repeats it well, and she
is so proud and excited about it "Mom, Lincoln just said Son, Oh Lincoln
I'm so proud of you". My favorite
word for him is "Ya-Ya" (Olivia), and I love it when he knows she is
up to no good and he pairs it with "No, No, Ya-Ya". It's great.
Bunny is 'up annany' (hopping down the bunny trail). Some others: Sit down, lights on, light off,
cheese pizza, Chaz (it was funny how he picked her name up and loves saying it), Grandma, Grandpa, Papa, Dada, Momma, and I love you!! catch is "tchetch" and he says watch. He says 'cookie' and 'cupcake' - as Olivia and Lincoln have a game they play where they pretend the little peoples are cupcakes or cookies and we have to pretend to eat them. He loves Elmo and can say it well, along with Grover. And, one of my favorites is 'baby' which sounds a lot like his 'birdie', but either way, when he gets around his cousin Cameron, he is absolutely hilarious about pointing at him 'baby'. Just wait Lincoln, it won't be long till you can't get away with calling him that!
He loves being outside, running most certainly, or putting rocks into a truck and then taking them back out of the truck. He recently showed us his mad fine motor skills, as he was putting beads onto a pipe cleaner without any assistance at an impressive rate. He likes to play play-dough with his sister at the kitchen table, though it's not unusual for him to attempt to try eating just a little bit of it… He has enjoyed any opportunity we've had to be in the water at the pools. At sister's birthday, he was getting so upset and we couldn’t' figure out why, and finally realized it was because we weren't taking him up into the water spraying activity area where you just got soaked, and then he demanded he go down the water slide (which is probably just a little too big for him), but I sent him down it, and Chaz caught him, and he loved it… so he did it probably 10 or so times until I had to tear him away from it!
Most TV shows aren't
that exciting for him, but he is definitely engaged with Peppa Pig. And ever since his sister's birthday party
(and the giant Peppa that is still 'alive' with some helium in our living
room), he just goes wild with excitement for the show.
He's a big lover
right now, he snuggles really well (sometimes too well, when he digs his giant
head into your clavicle it isn't as cute as I think he thinks)… and he gives really big and sweet hugs and
kisses before bed. There's nothing like
watching him and his sister give real love to each other. Agh, makes my heart melt every time!
One of my favorite
things he does randomly is pick up a phone or something that looks like one and
says "Hello, Buh-Bye".
